PH taps US space programs to monitor territorial waters
THE United States is helping the Philippines tap its space programs to monitor and document vessels in the country's territorial waters and exclusive economic zone, agencies from both governments announced on Tuesday. In a joint statement, the US Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, the US National Space Council, and the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) said Earth observation is a priority area for bilateral cooperation. AYALA Corp., the country's oldest conglomerate, recorded 22-percent net income growth in the first quarter, to P17.3 billion from P14.2 billion a year earlier, following strong results from core businesses. Core profit, which excludes one-off items, expanded 26 percent year on year to P11.8 billion, thanks to double-digit growth in its banking, telco, property and energy units, the conglomerate said in a disclosure on Tuesday. The NU Lady Bulldogs subdued the UST Golden Tigresses in Game Two, 25-23, 23-25, 27-25, 25-16, to sweep their UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball Finals series at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, May 15. Sheena Toring delivered the match-clinching hit as NU reclaimed the championship that it lost to De La Salle last year. The Lady Bulldogs overcame the Golden Tigresses in the thrilling extended third set before dominating the fourth for the championship.
