Glenfiddich

(glen-FID-ich)

Glenfiddich is one of, if not the most well-known and popular Scottish Single Malt whisky. The Glenfiddich Whisky distillery was founded by William and Elizabeth Grant in 1886 and unbelievably started production on Christmas day in 1887. The Grant family have maintained their strong family business sense throughout the years and have avoided being bought by the conglomerates.

Whisky Glenfiddich uses the same water source to run its entire distillery, the Robbie Dhu Spring. This water flows from the Conval Hills through peat and granite which makes it soft and peaty. Their Special Reserve was the first un-aged single malt to be sold internationally in the mid 1960s. Which is probably the reason their Glenfiddich 15 year old is the world’s best-selling single malt whisky today. Glenfiddich whisky produces a vast number of single malt whisky including a Vintage 1937 edition. They also have an excellent visitor centre which we would highly recommend if you are a lover of all things Glenfiddich.

How to pronounce the word Glenfiddich?

Fid compresses the Gaelic Fidach, which means the Glen of Deer, into a brand name tagline for a whisky. The tagline, of course, does not help you understand what is inside the bottle. With a smokey and floral aroma to this single malt Scotch whisky, it pairs perfectly with grilled salmon and lobster or any number of light summer dishes.
