Wild Abundance Perennial Caretaker Application
Wild Abundance is a school that teaches permaculture, gardening, and building skills. It is 25 minutes north of Asheville North Carolina and sits on 7 acres of forest, gardens, and field.

The Perrenial Caretaker is responsible for assisting in planting, care, and maintenance of perennial plantings and as annual gardening as needed at Wild Abundance using principles of holistic orcharding and permaculture.  This worktrade position runs April 20- November 10.

What you receive:
-An 8 by 12 foot seasonal private shelter at Wild Abundance
-Access to shared infrastructure:
        -A 20 by 30 foot shared outdoor (covered) kitchen with a breathtaking view on a a beautiful site. There is a gas stove, sink with running cold water, a very generous amount of counter space, a small solar system with lights and a charging station for laptops and cell phones, a picnic table, and no refrigeration(most residents use coolers, there is access to a freezer on the other side of the land where you can switch out freezer packs)
         -A lovely outdoor shower with hot running water and a permitted outhouse
-Guidance from Natalie, Frank, Cailen
-Use of tools to do your job
-Very close geographical proximity to a lot of folks doing really awesome land based living stuff
-$300/ month stipend April 20- May 31. The stipend June 1-November 10 is $100 because the hours are reduced and most of the hours go toward trade to live onsite.

What is expected from you:
The schedule varies by season. It starts off with more hours in the spring, then there is less to do during the summer. During the fall there will likely be the opportunity for additional paid work if the caretaker has time and interest
-12 hours/ week of work caring for the perennials and annuals throughout the campus April 1- May 31 and October 1- November 15.
-8 hours/ week of work caring for the perennials and annuals or other work if this is not needed throughout the campus June 1- November 10.
-A firm commitment to complete the season (April 20-November 15)
-Excitement to learn and implement applied permaculture
-Creating and updating of a monthly stewardship guide from the job
-Humility with guides and willingness to change ways of doing things based on guidance from guides
-To be a part of the community on "The other side of the land," to attend monthly meetings, and to be responsible for participating in group meals, chores, etc. as the group decides to do

The person who gets the position will be working with Cailen Campbell and Natalie Bogwalker. Mostly, instructions will be given on what needs to be done, and then the person who fills this role will do them on their own time within. Ability to follow instructions and work hard will be given preference. The person who gets the position needs to be able to self-motivate and be good at problem solving.

There are a lot of awesome peeps doing really awesome land based projects in very close proximity to Wild Abundance. There are also other residents at Wild Abundance. There is a lot of outdoor space to hang out, so, even in the time of COVID, so the opportunity for community is ripe.
