4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 642 ratings

A dragonet’s past murder throws Ezaara into a war between dragons and the monsters enslaving Dragons’ Realm. A fast-paced award-winning epic-fantasy series by multi-award-winning author Eileen Mueller.

In Lush Valley, it’s a crime to even talk about dragons…

When Ezaara meets Zaarusha the Dragon Queen, she’s swept up in a blaze of color and they imprint, forming a deep bond. She must give up her home and family to become the new Queen’s Rider. Ignorant and unprepared, how can she possibly succeed?

Luckily, she has a dragon master — although rumors say she might be better off with the enemy.

Plunged into a world of cutthroat politics and traitors in every shadow, who can Ezaara trust as Commander Zens and his army of bestial tharuks march closer, razing villages and enslaving the people of Dragons’ Realm?

What personal price must Ezaara and her Dragon Master pay to save their people?

Review

2019 Storylines New Zealand Notable Books Award ★★★★★ "A great fantasy read."
- Dean O'Gorman, actor, Fili the dwarf - The Hobbit

"Written in an eloquent and gripping style, Ezaara intrigued me from the start, but it was only when our relatively naive heroine was thrust into the midst of conspiracy and corruption that it really clutched me tight, and kept me reading far too late into the night! ... For the young adult market - and anyone who has ever wanted to befriend a dragon - Ezaara is a spell-binding tale of friendship, courage and determination."

- Booksellers NZ, The Read, review by Angela Oliver

"Lovers of high fantasy fiction will devour Ezaara... As you would expect from a two-time winner of New Zealand's Sir Julius Vogel Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy, Ezaara is a pacy adventure, filled with all our favourite fantasy elements ‒ dragons, feuding masters, battles, and young love." - Lee Murray, NZ Speculative Fiction Show★★★★★ "LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, all the way through!!!"
★★★★★"Stayed up reading until 4:30am. You'll have a hard time putting down this book."

I’ve had this series in my kindle for a while and just kept putting it off. What a fool I am! From page one I fell right in love with Ezaara. A proper start to an epic series, and I will definitely be reading the other 5 books.

For being YA/Coming of Age, this really reads like any great epic series. Dragons and riders, training, mind games, past secrets, deception and betrayal, with just the right smattering of romance. I loved the concept of the dragons imprinting with their riders and the bonds they form. Ezaara is special, but gets off to a rough start that continues to spiral downhill as she ends up blamed and shamed for a crime she didn’t commit. The character growth is wonderfully written and there are so many hints at the wider world that I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. And did I mention all the awesome dragons?

CONTENT: no profanity, no sex, mild violence

For as long a book as this was, it still felt rushed. Ezaara’s agreement to leave her family seemed abrupt and illogical. Most of the rest of the plot moved logically though sometimes it still seemed like her acceptance of the new life was quick. She made friends abruptly and lost friends abruptly. It was easy to tell that those characters were just there as place holders.

On the other hand, the plot kept me engaged, as did the developing romance. I can definitely see a lot of places for things to fall apart in the next book. There are plenty of subplots to keep the sorry going.

I loved the book, the characters are real and you know in the next book she will be reunited with someone you don’t expect. Can’t wait to start reading.

And you will too, when you read this fast paced journey of the new Dragon Rider Queen, and the many friends and foes she encounters.

Main characters have well developed personalities and believable back stories. Story flows well. I will read the next in this series

I am a dragon lover and this book really delivers. The characters were really engaging, this book had me rooting for them from the beginning. I don't want to give anything away, but there were some parts where I just had to keep reading. Too much was happening and I had to know the outcome before I stopped for the night. The only thing that I was a little disappointed with was the ending, would have liked a little more closure. I do have the next book so I won't have to suffer long. But if I had read this and had to wait awhile for the next book, that would have been hard. All in all I recommend this book to any dragon lover, I am hooked.

Àn exciting very fast paced intro to this world. Frankly it felt like drinking out of a fast flowing hose. After a while I grew accustomed to the pace, but there are few wasted words here.
My main uncomfort is the strong romantic element. I understand some prefer that to be the primary or exclusive thrust of the story. I myself prefer the world building and action. Those are here, but the romance isn't in the background.
I don't know if I would have started the series if I had been aware how much it is a part of the lead characters.
Hopefully it won't become so uncomfortable that I need to stop reading.

This is the second time I’ve read this book in a month, I enjoyed the preview, Bronze dragon, so much that I bought as many of the Dragon’s Realm novels that were available and then I devoured them. I wanted to review them but they were so well written that I couldn’t stop, the story flows so smoothly and there are so many things happening with plenty of action, danger and romance.
I recommend this series for teen to centenarians and it would even be good to read to or with younger children (as long as you leave out the mushy bits) enjoy.

Being a HUGE fan of Anne McCaffery books and someone who relates to dragons and their world I found this completely by accident. Very glad I did as found the first book wonderful - read it in two sittiings. I found the settiing to be believable and the characters all well rounded - especially liking the hints about what might happen in future - always a good sign. Love the twins, the dragonets, and wow, the Queen - would so love to meet a real dragon - in my head I know I would be able to speak to her (scuse the pun!).
Have bought the next two books and can't wait to see what happens to Ezaara and her family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice quick Read
Reviewed in Germany on March 25, 2020
Yeah, as the Title says, Its a nice quick read that throws you quite violently into the action and isnt giving you much of a backstory wich isnt even that bad, since parts of it get revealed later, so it makes a nice read to get those informations that the story lacks. Its interesting since you are building your opinion of the characters simply by Reading how they do stuff.
The only thing i would say is a bit off here are the places where the oblivious ignorance is quite strong and you just want to throw the reader against a wall or scream at it....

But overall a nice start!

4.0 out of 5 stars This book made me mad.
Reviewed in Australia on February 14, 2019
Overall this book was well written, it drew me in, made me relate to the character and all that jazz.
It made me so angry at the same time. WHY THE HECKING DARN WAS EVERYONE SO STUPID AND ILLOGICAL?? Lars was ok, he knew what was up. Roberto was smart. The main character was only dumb sometimes. The rest of them? All their unfair actions, stupid decisions, way they dealt with events, dealing out justice and thoughts was just rage inducing. I swear my hands shook my phone from the stupidity of it all many times, and if I had this in paperback, it would have hit a wall several times. I am usually a calm person, but when charactera make stupid decisions, and people react unnaturally or without significant evidence to make their actions logical, its upsetting. Also why the heck are these characters so damn young? How the heck is Roberto a master at the age of 17? Is the oldest age they get to in this world 40? Because that is the only reasonable explanations for adults to allow one that age to become a master. Seriously, even with his life experience, you can not expect a male still going through puberty to be able to be a master. Illogical I say!
Ok my rant is over, loved the book regardless. Great read and if you want to feel like there is no sense of justice until the last few chapters, this is the book for you.
