A Members-Only Benefit: Improve your advocacy

Modules of the IAHPC Advocacy Course created by Dr. Katherine Pettus continue to unfurl. In addition to the open access Introduction, made available in September 2021, IAHPC members now have unlimited access to both Module 1, released in October, and Module 2, released in December.

Dr. Pettus recommends that the video lectures be viewed in order, as each module builds on the others.

As of December 31, 17 IAHPC members had viewed Module 2, which focuses on advocacy for essential palliative care medicines. Module 1, which outlines the global advocacy framework, including the institutional landscape, has been viewed by 80 members.

Module 3, expected in January, continues the focus on essential medicines.

Each module is accompanied by a list of resources and a quiz for those who wish to earn a certificate.

If you have forgotten your membership number, which is needed to access the course, go to the IAHPC Members’ Section and select Did You Forget Your Membership Number or contact Genevieve Napier. If you are not a member, you can join for as little as $20 USD (for an individual, year-long membership of someone living in a low-income country as defined by the World Bank classification).

Great idea!

A charitable, nonreligious organization based in Canada but international in nature, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, offers free-of-charge professional photographs to families who wish to honor and remember their babies who have died. Since 2005, the organization has photographed approximately 50,000 babies and the feedback from parents has been overwhelmingly positive. Submissions are being accepted until March 4, 2022 for a special issue of the journal Palliative Medicine on equity-orientated palliative care. The call for papers states that they “must demonstrate relevance with content that clearly relates both to palliative care and to populations that experience structural and systemic barriers to high quality palliative care.” The journal has a particular interest in publishing “empirical research on the views and experiences of communities and people impacted by structural inequities and illuminates innovative models of palliative care delivery... [and encourage] contributions from those in the palliative care research workforce who have been impacted by structural inequities themselves, such as Indigenous and racially minoritized researchers.”
