My Sinful Nights

Like most reboots of novels I've read lately, I haven't read the original version of this series. This version of My Sinful Nights, though, has more angst, drama, and suspense than most Lauren Blakely books I've read so far; and I love it! Second-chance romance is one of my favorite tropes, but what I didn't like about this story is that it was a misunderstanding -or one could say miscommunication- that drove them apart in the first place. It's easy to overlook, though, because Brent and Shannon were still young when it happened. Brent and Shannon's story ends with a HEA in this book, but the book ends with a cliffhanger for the plotline about Shannon's parents. While I highly recommend this book (and all of Lauren Blakely's; she IS one of my favorite authors, after all!) I highly suggest having the entire series ready before starting on this one. My Sinful Nights is a second-chance contemporary romance written in multiple-person POV. It's the first book in a series and ends with a cliffhanger. No cheating. I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

My Sinful Nights is a fantastic second chance contemporary romance by Lauren Blakely. Ms. Blakely has provided readers with a well-written book, though it is written in first person, alternating point of view. Shannon traveled from London to California to surprise Brent and tell him he's going to be a father. Brent has been working long crazy hours and the one night he goes for drinks with his coworkers, he ends up driving his drunk friend home so she wouldn't do anything crazy. Brent and Shannon's story is packed with misunderstandings, drama, humor, sizzle and suspense. I enjoyed reading My Sinful Nights and look forward to my next book by Lauren Blakely. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger...BUT, there is a backstory that I imagine won't get solved until later in the series and there's a great hook into the the next book.

Amazing second-chance romance! It takes real talent to write such believable characters that you can see each side and write them so the reader, even knowing why the characters do what they do, still sympathizes with each one's choices. Shannon and Brent are separated by a classic misunderstanding, but the writing is so exquisitely on-point that even when you see that it's all wrong the separation still feels inevitable. Years later, a business deal brings them back into each other's orbits and the truth doesn't take long to rise to the surface. I swooned for Brent, cried with Shannon, and cheered them both when they realized that they hadn't lost everything. All the raw emotional intensity they couldn't deny powered them through the necessary steps in charting their future together, and it was a beautiful, brilliant story to read. And the drive-thru - what a perfectly spontaneous, yet long-awaited event! We really get to know all of Shannon's family in this book, and it's clear that the mystery surrounding their parents is going to be played out in the subsequent books that focus on each of her brother's romances. I'm looking forward to reading each one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
