Netflix Will Reportedly Offer Nearly 50 Games by the End of 2022

Games are in this year.

Netflix reportedly plans to offer close to 50 games as part of its subscription by the end of the year.

An anonymous source told The Washington Post that the streaming platform is looking to explore gaming-based content opportunities "from every direction" – but is sticking to mobile platforms for the time being.

Netflix users currently have access to 18 games, meaning the plans to release around 30 more across the next eight months.

Netflix Spotlight: April 2022

Netflix released its first selection of games in November last year, meaning the 18 available so far have arrived within six months. Given it did this after only announcing its expansion into games last July, another 30 games by December doesn't seem too unrealistic.

This comes after Netflix recorded its biggest one-day stock drop after losing 200,000 subscribers, forcing the service to cancel several animated series including Bone and Road Dahl's The Twits.

A few days prior to the loss Netflix had announced that a digital version of the Exploding Kittens card game would arrive this year. It will be released in May ahead of an animated series based on the IP (which hasn't been cancelled), evidence of the "from every direction" approach to games.

Netflix is also bolstering its game development capacity as last month it acquired two mobile game studios (Next Games and Boss Fight) while last September it purchased Oxenfree developer Night School Studio.
