Did You Know?: Reverend Hugh Braham Sherlock was the writer behind the Jamaican national anthem and pledge. Born in Portland on March 21, 1905, he devoted his life to service. As a Methodist minister, he worked in Turks & Caicos before returning to Jamaica, where he founded Boys’ Town in 1940, empowering young men through education and sports. Sherlock later led the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and served on the World Methodist Council. His lifelong contributions earned him national honors such as the Order of Jamaica and the Order of the British Empire.
