Welcome to Day 11 of our Pinterest Tips emails.
I have a VIRAL PIN right now!
I have many, MANY pins that do consistently well and are long-term traffic-bringers...
But it's been a hot minute since I've had - or HEARD of - a truly VIRAL pin.
And let me tell ya - it sure makes Pinterest EXTRA fun again!
Quick stats on the pin and post:
Post was first published September 6, 2022
"Another" Pinterest account pinned it on the same day.
Until something happened end of January - and the pin went BOOM.
I kinda think it was one of my Hybrid Pin tricks I do, but I can't PROVE that
13,800-ish Clicks To My Post
and that all happened in like TWO DAYS.
Uh, YES traffic for that blog is WAY up...
and yep, ad earnings are looking pretty good too -
It's like the good 'ol days of Pinterest again =)
I've learned a TON while analyzing and reverse-engineering this Viral Pin.
I could probably write email tips for DAYS just on what I'm learning right now.
I'm really excited about it.
I want to talk about what I SEE during a Viral Pin experience.
What I did to my post while this is happening.
The signs that a pin is REALLY good...
(and that right there was FASCINATING to me - I bet this sign I see is something that 'triggers' the Pinterest algo)
I'm watching people pin and repin...
I'm watching what they're clicking ON my post.
What they click to read next... ALL of it.
But, I'm writing an EMAIL here...
NOT a pdf training guide haha!
So let's start with this:
Pins are INFORMATION People Want To Remember
Perhaps back in school, you had a handy-dandy bright yellow highlighter?
(you remember BOOKS, right? haha!)
You'd open a book, start reading and HIGHLIGHT information you wanted to remember.
Pins are ideas and information pinners want to REMEMBER.
They may want that info for what they're doing NOW...
Or for something they want to do later.
Pins are PERSONAL to the pinner.
Someone might repin your chicken recipe because...
They simply LOVE the plate you put it on.
(ie, they just "highlighted" the plate NOT necessarily the RECIPE)
Someone might repin your living room coffee table decor pin because...
that's how they want to hang their TV on the wall.
(ie, they just "highlighted" the TV and NOT your coffee table baskets and pretty candles)
In essence, there are two 'types' of pins...
There are the "Magazine" style pins with words that drive people to click and visit your blog.
(we talked about "Magazine Pins" way back in our Day 2 email)
Then there are the plain image pins - and those pins are the most personal of all.
YOU, the blogger, are not TELLING them what it is or what to see...
the pinner decides on their own what that pin image means to THEM.
It COULD be the baked chicken in the pin image...
Or it could be the PLATE.
BOTH kinds of pins are good for traffic - and all posts should have BOTH types of pins.
Now, there IS a 3rd type of pin - infographic or checklist types of pins.
While those types of pins get engagement, they are NOT the best for sending traffic to your blog if ALL the info they need is ON the pin.
As I watch pinners save my Viral Pin to their board(s), I am absolutely fascinated by the board NAMES they save it to.
Some boards were totally keyword-relevant...
and others were like "Huh WHAT?!?!"
When it comes to repins from a Viral Pin, here are 3 facts I KNOW to be true:
1. Pinners are more likely to save (repin) the pin that brought them to your post thru Pinterest
2. Pinners really like to save ALL, or LOTS, of pins from one post.
3. YOU do not get to decide what your pin, or post, means to someone else.
(get your highlighter out and highlight all that lol!)
What you can learn from that...
The most RE-pinned pin will be the one they clicked to get to your post.
Once they GET to your post, be sure you have OTHER "irresistible" pins for them to save also.
That, right there, is one of the things I did to help INCREASE the results of my Viral Pin.
As soon as I did it, and republished my post - it INSTANTLY started working.
We'll talk about THAT tomorrow =)
Viral Pins are BACK, baby!
It's time to UP your Pinterest skills...
And the extra ad revenue doesn't stink either =)
