About Citizen Zikoko Citizen is on a mission to help every young Nigerian – in Nigeria and abroad – understand politics, policy, and governance, and take action. The publication currently sits as a vertical under Zikoko but it is set to become a standalone publication this year.

The goal is to become the first choice for irreverent political commentary and content in the country. So far, we have created content that has educated and entertained our audience. We have talked about political scandals but also given insights into certain government processes and policies. We’ve done this through our video flagships, such as “Everyday Citizens”, our weekly newsletter “Game of Votes” and our written flagship “Abroad Life” which explores the experience of citizens who are far from home. We will continue telling important stories and giving our audience the best political content in various formats - from videos to podcasts - and we want to do this on a larger scale. This is where you come in. We’re hiring a creative videographer and editor to join the multimedia team to produce high-quality video content that educates our audience and spurs them to action.

Job Description As a videographer and editor, you will be reporting directly to the Head of Video Production at Cabal Creative. You will however work very closely with the Creative Producer at Citizen as well as other members of the team. Your duties will include:

• Working with the Citizen Video Producer to film short-form videos, interviews and documentaries with policymakers, political aspirants, journalists, social impact professionals and everyday citizens.
• Delivering broadcast-quality production for Citizen’s Youtube and short-form content for the relevant social media platforms.
• Organising footage; editing and delivering projects within stipulated deadlines.
• Accurately archiving existing video assets and creating archiving standards for future use, such as naming conventions and file size or type requirements.
• Laising with the Citizen team, Creative Producer and Head of Production on the best methods to bring a vision to life.
• Ensuring that equipment for a shoot is present and working.
• Planning the shoot with the team and other stakeholders.
• Editing footage from other assigned projects.
• You will sometimes be required to travel to create this content.

You would be a great fit for this role if:

• You’re a creative thinker with excellent communication and organisational skills.
• You have a high interest in or passion for Nigerian politics and governance.
• You have the ability to multitask and prioritise work.
• You have a strong understanding of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Premiere Pro.
• You have prior experience working as a filmmaker or videographer and video editor either freelance or with a media or creative agency
• You have experience producing short-form content for YouTube, Vimeo or other online platforms & websites.
• You can deliver on time, and sometimes within stringent deadlines.
• You can create shot lists, and think creatively about different projects.
• You have basic, motion graphics skills and can develop titles and motion graphics using photoshop and after effects.
• You have experience with multi-camera editing.
• You’re a great storyteller with understanding of basic filming methods, sound recording and lighting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To understand basic filming methods, sound recording and lighting and be a good storyteller.
• To be able to deliver Broadcast Quality production for Citizens Youtube and short-form content that will sit on social media.
• Accurately archive existing video assets. Create archiving standards for future use, such as naming conventions and file size/type requirements.
• Required to liaise fully with the Citizen team, creative producer and Head of Production and advice on what the best methods to bring a vision to life would be.
• Edit already existing footage/projects and new projects to perfection.
• Edit videos that are created for specific memorial dates.
• Might be required to chip in on other edits for Cabal Creative, you will be well informed before said projects are expected.
