Full of adventure, lose, hope and action.
Review for Anakisha's Dragon: Full of adventure, lose, hope and action. First off: This was my first story about pirates/the sea and I think Ms. Mueller did a ton of research and made it sound so true. Mueller has a great way with her words and wrote the story very well. DRAGONS! This story was so cool and full of the magical creatures. I love that, in Muellers' world, Dragons can mind-meld with their Riders. Which brings fun and laughable scenes. I stayed up late many, many nights to read what happened next... it's definitely a page turner and keeps you guessing. There's mages and magic sprinkled throughout the story which makes it even more fun! I love how Mueller interlocks her characters and stories together, and I can't wait to read more of the characters from this book in her other novels. Each book is separate characters from the same universe, but I hope we see more of Anakisha, because she was a great character. I loved the multiple point of views. I was slightly confused at first how Wills' POV made sense in the story, I quickly learned why his side of the story made sense to read though. This story is pointed toward the YA world (with little to no romance) but I think anyone would enjoy this adventure! Mueller has a great way of painting the picture of her scenes so well, a movie just plays out in your head. The ending was unexpected, there will be losses and heartache but in the very end, there is also hope and love. If you love adventures, Dragons and excitement you will love this story.

Anakisha's Dragon mostly follows young barmaid and archer Anakisha as she tries to better her family's circumstances. She hopes to win the archery tournament to impress the town arbitrator so she can hopefully marry his son and hopefully they'll elevate her barman father so he will have money and not work so hard. So many hopes, and the arrogant rider of the king of dragons ruins her carefully planned chain. But of course something else she hadn't ever considered and doesn't thunk she wanted happens, setting off an epic chain of events.

Meanwhile, several unrelated characters are starting their own adventures in a complex web of storylines that reminded me of Wheel of Time or a bit like a lighter Game of Thrones.

In the second book, Dragon Mage, the powerful but badly trained apprentice mage Giddi stays with his excessively cruel master in hopes of finding his missing father. He tries to hide his powerful magic from the very jealous and ambitious master, but it gets harder when Video discovers an affinity for dragons. Even though he is powerful and has an extremely rare talent, he is constantly beaten down. I really hated the vicious master mage for alk the crap he does to poor little Giddi. At the sane time, Anakisha's story continues and other characters's stories are growing.

The third book follows Will, A boy trying to earn a few coins to get food for his little sister and ill mother. But he ends up press ganged onto a pirate ship where the sport seems to be finding ways to torture and kill the captives. Through a tear-jerking series of events where Will is fighting to survive, he ends up bonding with a sea dragon and becoming the Scarlet Hand. He and the crew spread rumors of the new pirate who strikes down all enemies and eats their bloody hearts. The author dies a wonderful job showing how Will struggles to control the bloodthirsty pirate crew while balancing his own gentle and kind nature. I was crying out loud in parts of this book.

Life in these books is very hard. With the introduction of each new character, I found myself wondering what new torture this wonderful author would dream up. What's going to happen to the tiny orphan girl? To the cabin "boy"? And many others. And what will become of Anakisha, Giddi, and Will in later books. I hope the author has more in this series, at least.

I love the plot. The characters are interesting. As much as I enjoyed these books, I could not give you a five. There are a couple of places I feel like you dropped the ball. You left a serious situation on a boat, then the next thing I knew, they are hacking through a jungle. I find gaps, I felt should have been filled. I still think you have great potential. I intend on reading the rest of these books. I have enjoyed the story. I know they will be even better. Best wishes for success
